Set in the very near future, Jordan Harrison’s Marjorie Prime imagines a world where technology can recreate the people we’ve lost. As one family turns to this innovation to ease grief and fading memory, they must confront a powerful question: is it better to remember the truth—or a more comforting version of it? The Sea Ranch Thespians’ production of this heartfelt, quietly powerful Pulitzer Prize Finalist play examines our beliefs about family, memory, and connection.
The New York Theater Guide says “For all its clairvoyance and foresight about technology, Marjorie Prime’s most potent superpowers are its sensitivity and tenderness. Harrison’s spare, gently gripping script is a model of eloquent economy as the characters grapple with grief and what it means to truly love and remember someone.”
Directed by Karen L. Russell, the show features Lynne Atkins as Marjorie, Kathye Hitt and John Carlson as Marjorie’s daughter Tess and her son-in-law Jon, and Phil Atkins as Walter Prime.
Performances are September 17-20 and 24-27 at 4:00pm at the Knipp-Stengel barn. 37600 Highway One. Admission is free, but due to limited seating, reservations are required.
