The Sea Ranch Thespians are excited to announce that their spring show will be the world premiere of a new play – Cicero’s Lisp by Richard Manley. Cicero’s Lisp is a sharp, tender comedy drama about a man who worships words even as his own body begins to betray him. Bookstore owner, Max—brilliant, irascible, and allergic to sloppy language—sparks with customers, spars lovingly with his great niece Chloe, and clings to the order books provide him. But when a looming crisis interrupts his routines and his temper flares into something darker, the people around him must decide how to break through his defenses. Richard Manley weaves humor, intellect, and vulnerability into a story about connection, mortality, and the unexpected grace that arrives when we finally let others in.
Audiences may remember the Thespians’ previous productions of Manley’s A Fish Story (2022) and A Question of Words (2016). A hallmark of his productions is the post show talkback, where the playwright joins the audience to discuss the play and answer questions.
Cicero’s Lisp features Thespian veterans Mark Erickson, Camille Campbell, Vinoo Vijay, Beverley Fagundes, Karen L. Russell, Chanee Vijay and John Carlson and newcomers Gina Smith and Dayle Farina. Directed by Kathye Hitt.
