The Sea Ranch Thespians invite actors to audition for Marjorie Prime, Jordan Harrison’s quietly devastating, Pulitzer Prize–nominated drama about memory, identity, and the stories we tell ourselves. Performances are September 17-20 and 24-27, 2026.
Auditions will be March 13th and 14th at 2:30pm and are open to all coastal residents. Afternoon rehearsals will begin mid-late July
Set in the near future, Marjorie Prime explores the intersections of technology and humanity as an aging woman grapples with fading memory and the digital companion designed to help her hold onto her past. Critics have described the play as “hauntingly elegant” and “a work that lingers long after the final line,” and our company is eager to bring its layered characters to life with the same depth and nuance that reviewers have celebrated in our previous productions.
Actors will read from selected scenes provided at the audition. Perusal scripts are available by contacting the director, Karen L. Russell, KLRuss2013@gmail.com or 925-876-9042. Familiarity with the play is encouraged. Performers of all backgrounds and levels of experience who are drawn to thoughtful, character-driven work are welcome to audition.
There are two male and two female roles:
- Marjorie – 80ish years old, sharp-witted, vulnerable, and complex.
- Tess – Marjorie’s daughter, carrying the weight of unresolved history.
- Jon – Tess’s husband, compassionate and grounded.
- Walter Prime – An AI companion modeled on Marjorie’s late husband.
All are invited to try out.
Marjorie Prime offers actors the chance to explore rich emotional terrain in a setting that values collaboration, curiosity, and artistic integrity. If you’re ready to dive into a play that asks big questions with quiet power, we’d love to see you at auditions.
